Civil and structural engineering is designing, constructing, and maintaining the physical world around us. It involves helping build infrastructure like roads, bridges, buildings, dams, water systems, and railways to deliver public needs for a sustainable environment ensuring modern society functions safely and efficiently.
Civil and structural engineering is not just one job. Like many jobs, there are lots of different activities and responsibilities that make up the whole.
Civil and structural engineering involves a certain amount of office based work, or working from home, as well as time out and about visiting various sites where new constructions will be taking place.

If you enjoy puzzles or mysteries, civil and structural engineering may be right up your street! Much of the work involved requires problem-solving skills, delving into the past, and working out the best way forward.
Civil and structural engineering helps us find out how something should be built. This involves investigating old land records, examining rock structures and the ground, analysing water courses, figuring out how people using the new building will affect it, and deciding what materials should be used. There’s a lot to think about to make sure any new construction is safe and sustainable for people to use.

You’ll learn the main jobs and responsibilites required for civil and structural engineering. There’s a lot to learn so everything is split into easy bitesized chunks. At the start of each section Engine will tell you what you will be learning and then summarise this knowledge at the end.
Along the way, you’ll be tested on what you have learned with some typed answers and a multiple-choice quiz after each section. By the end, when you have finished each section and all you’re challenges are complete, you’ll be able to download your workbook which contains the whole work experience course information, including your answers.
